1999 Inks Lake State Park

Inks Lake State Park is adjacent to the Inks Lake reservoir on the Colorado River in central Texas. It is a little over an hour drive from Austin. Although we've been back several times since, this was our first visit to the park, in November, 1999.

This is the view from the top of a hill south of the campgrounds.
This is a typical scene in the park in the fall: tall grasses, cedar trees, and prickly pear cactus. The park was once used as a cattle ranch.
This is a view of the lake from the trail to Devil's Water Hole, at the far eastern end of the park. Devil's Water Hole is formed where a small creek drains into the lake and forms a small cove ideal for swimming. I don't know how it got the name.
There was some color in the leaves of the trees in the late afternoon sun.
Some trails scramble over the rocks upstream of Devil's Water Hole.
Looking at the lake from the far southeastern corner of the park.
The exposed rocks around the park were mostly granite.
Back at Devil's Water Hole, looking to the northwest.
We sat on a big rock by the lake for a long time enjoying the view as the sun got lower and lower. It was really very beautiful.
