2009 Lake Brownwood State Park

Jen and I decided to use the last month of our annual state park pass to visit some of the state parks within a couple of hours drive of home that we had not been to before. Lake Brownwood State Park is a little more than two hours' drive northwest of our home, in the southeast portion of the Texas panhandle. We were there on a sunny, but cool January day with few park visitors.

The sign at the boat ramp. I don't know if the recommendation against swimming is related to water quality or water hazards. We didn't even bring our swimsuits...
A view of the lake from a small hill near the boat ramps. We only heard a couple of boats out on the lake all afternoon.
At the top of the little hill was a circular stone sitting area. We were there late in the afternoon, when the shadows were long.
The park store operates a gas pump for motorboats. The store was closed when we were there late Sunday.
$1.635/gallon was actually a fairly competitive price for unleaded gasoline. On the way home, in the city of Brownwood, the best price we saw at a gas station was $1.599/gallon. I also found it interesting that the price included 5/10 of a cent instead of the usual 9/10 of a cent.
We walked a ways down the beach before stopping to admire the view. Despite being a sunny Sunday afternoon with air temperature in the low 60s Fahrenheit, there were no boats out on the lake. There were no park visitors around, either. It was very peaceful.
Jen, ready to head home.
