2010 Port Aransas

Jen took me to Port Aransas for my birthday. I think October is the best month of the year to go to the beach on the Texas Gulf Coast. The air temperature is usually in the 80s and the water temperature is usually in the mid-70s, and there are fewer tourists. Port Aransas is about four hours away from our home in Austin.

We took the ferry across from Aransas Pass to Port Aransas. The wait for the ferry and then the crossing usually take 20-30 minutes, but it's faster than driving all the way around Corpus Christi, and it's free.
The ferry ride itself takes less than five minutes.
Our usual beach kit includes camp chairs, umbrellas, and a cooler of drinks and snacks. This was my view as a flock of pelicans flew by. If you know where to look on the horizon, you can see offshore platforms as well.
The beach is uncrowded in October. This is looking north. Way off in the distance you can see the pier at the Nueces County Park.
After a nice day in the sun and surf, we had dinner at Snoopy's Pier on North Padre Island. The restaurant is on the intracoastal waterway side of the island, and you get nice sunsets over the water.
