In late February, 2011, I had a chance to spend a few hours in the morning at South Beach in Miami, Florida.

The Atlantic Ocean on a winter morning.

The beach was not too crowded early in the morning.

Waves rolling in.

Looking south down the beach.

A jellyfish rolling in the surf.

The sand was very nice and mostly free of seaweed or debris.

People playing in the surf. The water was a little brisk, but I think a lot of the tourists were from Europe, where the beaches have even colder water.

Some cargo ships off in the distance.

More and more people showed up as it got closer to mid-day.

Most of the hotels have been maintained or restored to the Art Deco style that popular in the 1930s.

The Breakwater Hotel.

Even the Beach Patrol Headquarters building was designed in an Art Deco style.

Some people were flying kites.

The water was a very turquoise shade of blue. You can see some seaweed floating in the surf.
